In July 2010, a fire destroyed David’s home and all the contents, or so he thought. While having what remained of his home demolished, he hunted for anything that survived the heat and flames.

“When the back hoe operator would move from place to place I would check the slab and see if there was anything worth saving,” David said. “The operator stopped to take a telephone call and I walked up on the slab and there was one of my Sarge knives, my red NWTF knife.”

He said the box was dirty, but the National Wildlife Turkey Federation folding knife inside was still in excellent condition. Along with the knife was a 1967 yearbook from the second grade and two photos. That was all he was able to salvage.

“It is truly amazing the knife survived and in such a nice condition,” he said.
