About the steel
I am usually scepitcal of imported stell and it's classification, but this 440C blade edge has outlasted all of my early Buck knives made from the same steel. I've field dressed, skinned, and quartered three deer this year and have only had to straighten the edge once on a steel. It's still razor sharp. Good job with the heat treat process on this blade. I rate this knife at 4 1/2 stars. If the length and profile were modified slightly, it would get 5.

Almost perfect
Quite possibly the closest to the perfect Whitetail knife I've seen in 50 years of deer hunting. Lacking only in blade length. Excellent drop point design. Almost the perfect profile including blade width. Just a bit short. Because blades wider than 5/8 - 11/16" are more difficult to use on the first cuts required for field dressing deer, this blade is the perfect width. Would prefer a 3 7/8" - 4" blade 5/8" wide, but for now, this is it. Additionally, 440C is probably the best bang for the buck with 1.2% carbon content and easily capable of a Rockwell hardness of C58 - C60 making edge retention better than anything even close to this price point. Most other commercial hunting knives are 420HC with.7% carbon and not as capable of holding an edge as 440C. Only alloys like ATS34, D2, CM154, S30V, S60V, and S90V etc... are considered capable of a higher degree of edge retention, but at 5 times the cost or more. I really like this knife.
